In Wales the PGA works in partnership with the Golf Union of Wales and Golf Development Wales to support the growth and development of golf in Wales. This work is carried out under the banner of 'Golf Coaching Cymru'.
Golf Development Wales facilitates the growth and health of the sport via a number of initiatives outlined in its' strategy called d3 which aims to develop the golfer, the person and the sport. One of the main outcomes is a significant increase in the numbers of people playing the sport, especially women and girls, affiliated to golf clubs. Initiatives such as 'Tri-golf', starter centres and Golf Xtreme are delivered as part of the strategy, all of which require quality coaches at the heart.

PGA professionals are central to sustaining the growth of the game of golf within Wales, but in order to meet the ever increasing demand for coaching, particularly for juniors, there is a need to recruit volunteers to support coaching activity.
The Coach Education Manager for Wales works very closely with Golf Development Wales to ensure that there is a constant flow of quality coaches, (both volunteer and professional), throughout Wales, who can support the growth and development of golf.
Individuals interested in becoming a volunteer coach in Wales should firstly make contact with their local PGA professional to identify a place to coach and a supporting mentor. The next step is to contact the Coach Education Manager for Wales to enquire about accessing a Level 1 coach education course. At this stage individuals will be asked to identify where they will be coaching and which PGA professional they will be working with as a mentor. Suitable volunteers will then be found a place on an appropriate coach education course in their local area.
