Tracy In Pole Position

Published in:

A round that included seven birdies has left Tracy Loveys from Dorset quietly confident that she can make the Glenmuir Women's Club Professional Championship her own as she tees up this morning for the second and final round at Royal Porthcawl.

A former Ladies European Tour player (pictured) - "I gave it three years in the 1990's and realised it wasn't for me, I just didn't make enough money" - Tracy played a round of solid worth yesterday, carding a three-under 72, all of four shots clear of Catherine Panton-Lewis.

Tracy's only flaw occurred at the 317-yard ninth where she overshot the green, finished up on the men's 10th tee.

From there she chipped and three-putted for the only real setback of the day. Otherwise her long game was in nifty order, rewarding her with five birdies at the seven par-fives.

Much of her time is spent teaching at Remedy Oak club near Wimborne. "I get as much competition as I want, but teaching's my mainstay."

Catherine Panton-Lewis, after a spotty front nine of 40, burdened by four bogeys, was really on a roll coming home, tucking four birdies away. But her momentum was temporarily halted when she played a wrong ball at the 17th and suffered a two-stroke penalty, converting her par five into a seven.

The holder, Mette Hageman, looks to have left herself too much to do to retain the title after a four-over 79, which leaves her tied sixth.
