County Louth-based professional Robert Giles returns to his native York for next week's final of the Glenbrae PGA Fourball Championship, in association with SkyCaddie, hoping to disappoint one of his friends.
The £30,000 54-hole takes place between October 3 and 5 at Fulford Golf Club but if Giles is in contention on the final day he will miss a mate's wedding ceremony which takes place on the Friday afternoon.
However, if that is the case he hopes to be able to show off a trophy at the evening reception.
"The ceremony's at 3pm but I hope not to make it. I don't mind not going to the ceremony but I don't want to miss the evening do," said Giles, of Greenore Golf Club.
Fulford used to be the 36-year-old's former club and his family and friends still live in York. However, Giles does not think he will have much in the way of home advantage.
"I'm looking forward to going back and one of my best mates is caddying for me at the tournament," he added.
"I used to play a lot of my golf there in the past but I haven't played Fulford for 14 years and haven't been to York for two years."
Giles and his partner Brian Kerley (Greenlife Golf Centre) have another reason for wanting to do well next week.
They qualified for last year's final at Hesketh in Southport but had to pull out as Giles was in contention for the Order of Merit title and had some crucial tournaments to play in.
This time around, however, there will be no such distractions and Giles himself goes into the event full of confidence.
"My game is not too bad. I finished joint second in the Southern PGA Championship recently so all in all that was not too bad, although you are always unhappy finishing second as I should have won," he said.
"And this is a nice event at the end of the year which takes some of the pressure off."
Athenry's Michael Mulryan has been to one national final already this year - the Powerade PGA Assistants' Championship at the London club - but although he made the cut he was disappointed with his joint 41st finish.
However, his preparations for this event have been hampered by a back injury and he does not know how much that will affect him.
"I don't want to over-do the practice because I don't want to get injured again as I've only just got the back sorted," said the 22-year-old, who finished joint second in the Irish qualifier with County Sligo's Dara Ford.
"But it will be nice to go away for a few days' golf and I am fairly confident because Dara is playing well and it is all about how well you gel as a team.
"I have heard good things about the golf course. I played in the same group as Robert Giles in the qualifier and he said good things about it."
Other finalists from the Irish region are Gary Wardlow (Dunmurry) and Alan Reid (Barry Hamill Golf Academy, Dungannon), William Noble (County Cavan) and Bobby Brady (Headfort) and Kevin McGrath (Birr) and David Mortimer (GUI National Academy).
