Little looking to go large

Published in:

Surrey PGA professional Andy Little is looking to make a name for himself across the country after leaving the stability of a club job to set up his own business.

The 25-year-old left his job at Silvermere Golf and Leisure near Cobham to go it alone with his new venture Little Golfers.

Little currently has a client base across three counties - Surrey, West Sussex and Middlesex - but is confident he can make it work on a much wider scale.

The core of the business is based around taking Tri-Golf and Golf Xtreme to schools and other programmes and activities involving children.

"I set up Little Golfers to work exclusively with schools to deliver Tri-Golf and Golf Xtreme sessions," said Little, who qualified as a professional at the age of just 21.

"We are working with 50 schools across three counties - Surrey, West Sussex and Middlesex - and three lottery-funded local sport partnership projects.

"I have seven people working with me and we are expanding all the time so I'm looking to get a few more PGA pros on board.

"At the moment I am doing so much coaching myself I can't get out. Once I have got another coach or two in this area I definitely want to take it UK wide.

"There is no-one else out there doing it. There are PGA pros who do Tri-Golf but I haven't come across anyone who does what I do."

Little, who is based in Addlestone, was one of the youngest-qualified PGA professionals and despite his relative youth he has not been daunted by the challenge of setting up his own business.

"It has been a bit of leap but, to be honest, I have always been like that," said Little, who left Silvermere in December.

"At a golf club you are so in line with the other guys you can't really expand.

"I couldn't really spread my wings. I have had to bite the bullet but it is the best thing I have done do far."
