A West Country golf professional is bidding to follow in his father's footsteps - by reaching the Grand Final of Europe's largest pro-am tournament.
Bude & North Cornwall head professional Mark Yeo will make his full debut in the PGA National Pro-Am Championship - 29 years after his father and former PGA Captain John qualified for the first ever final at Portugal's Penina Golf Resort.
Yeo will be aided in his quest by 44-year-old amateur Darrell Troop at the regional qualifier at Devon's Saunton Golf Club on Wednesday May 7.
They will be joined by more than 50 teams from across the west of England looking to land a luxury five star trip to the 36-hole final, which is being staged at Turkey's Antalya Golf Club later in the year, and a share of the £30,000 prize fund.
Yeo is eager to make his mark in the tournament having not only succeeded his long-serving father as head pro at the Cornish club but to also make amends for the time he was drafted in as a late substitute in the tournament a few years back.
"I got a call 48 hours before the qualifier at Exeter as my father was unable to play in it," said 38-year-old Yeo.
"That was about 10 years ago so this will be my first time as head pro over what is one of the two best courses in the west of England.
"As it's my first real attempt the tactic will be to go at it hell for leather because as it's only one round there's no time to play yourself in. There's normally some low scores so it's a case of going for everything and getting your amateur to use his shots wisely."
Yeo will be looking to call on his five-handicap partner to steer them to the final, especially as Troop used to be an assistant golf professional many years ago.
Troop, who is now a driver, also has the added bonus of playing in two previous regional finals at Saunton.
"The first time I played in it with John we played quite well and finished just three or four off the pace but the second time wasn't as good," said Troop.
"I'm looking forward to giving it another go."
Also looking to make the most of it is Darren Prowse, head professional at The Warren in Dawlish, Devon.
Prowse will be assisted by 29-year-old insurance clerk Peter Connolly, who plays off 16.
And the pro may need a little a help from his playing partner as he goes into the event having just become a father for the second time with daughter Ella joining older brother Max.
"It has been a bit hectic the past few weeks with my wife giving birth to our daughter, while trying to run the business at the same time," he said.
"It does mean I haven't had that much chance to play, which hasn't been helped by a bad back I got playing with my son. But it's eased and I should be fine for the tournament."
Also in the field bidding to reach the five-day five-star trip to the Sirene Beach & Hotel Resort on the shores of Turkey's Mediterranean Coast from November 30 to December 4 are host pro Albert MacKenzie, last year's finalist Barry Austin (Downes Crediton), former European ace Andrew Sherborne (The Kendleshire), Tracey Loveys (Bigbury) and the 2006 Midland Region No 1 Richard O'Hanlon, who moved to Lanhydrock last year.
