A double-bogey six at the final hole cost Solheim Cup captain Alison Nicholas an outright victory at the Ryder Cup Wales 2010 WPGA One-Day Series event at Dunham Forest in Altrincham.
The midlands-based 46-year-old got into trouble at the relatively short 382-yard par four and as a result dropped back into a share of first place after a one-over-par round 73 put her alongside Lysa Jones (The Oaks) and Emma Prentice (Gog Magog).
It was something of a mixed day for Nicholas, who had a birdie and two bogeys on her front nine with an eagle three at the 463-yard 14th and that double bogey at 18 the only deviations from par coming home.
By contrast, Jones birdied the last having been two over at the mid-point of her round after three bogey fives before enjoying a better back nine. She said her round was not helped by a three-hour rain delay just as she had got going.
"We got to the second hole and then play was suspended and it is hard because it breaks up your routine and rhythm," said the 36-year-old.
"It was a difficult day but you have to stay focused."
The York-based golfer also credited her colleague at The Oaks Graham Walker, a renowned coach who has been on hand to offer advice when necessary.
"He is one of the top coaches in England and he just inspires me both with my coaching and my own game," she added.
For Prentice, however, the rain break came as something of a relief.
"I'd only managed to play four holes and was two over at the rain delay but returned to finish one over," said the 31-year-old head assistant, who after the break began par-birdie-bogey-birdie.
"Qualifying was the important thing so finishing as joint winner was just a bonus."
There was a four-way tie for fourth, a shot behind, between Joanne Pritchard (Pontypool), Alison Gray (Ormskirk), Marie Allen (Brookmans Park) and Rachel Bailey (Trent Lock).
