Pritchard Secures Outright Win

Published in:

Pontypool's Joanne Pritchard won her second Ryder Cup Wales 2010 WPGA One-Day Series event with a resounding six-stroke victory at Harpenden Common near St Albans.

Pritchard carded a five-under-par 66, which included six birdies and one bogey, to record her first outright win in the series this season having shared first place with Devon's Tracy Loveys in Cardiff last month.

Gog Magog's Emma Prentice, who finished tied first at the last event at Dunham Forest, was second after a 72 for one over, with Tavistock's Laura Eastwood third on two over and Alison Nicholas, West Cornwall's Marie Tulley and Rothley Park's Katie Tebbet joint fourth on three over.

Pritchard made a late decision to play in the event as last week she received an invitation to play in the Ladies English Open, a European Tour event which began at The Oxfordshire today.

However, it proved a good move as she was able to really hone her game in a competitive environment.

"It's great and it's nice to win one on your own," said the 26-year-old.

"It was just one of those days when everything was going for me and I just holed some putts.

"My game has been good recently and I had 28 putts in the round - that is the difference."

It was a lesson with her coach Neil Matthews which persuaded Pritchard not to drop the one-day event to play at The Oxfordshire.

"I had already committed to Harpenden Common when I got the call to go to the Ladies English Open," she explained.

"I had a final lesson with Neil and we decided a competitive round would be better than standing around hitting balls all day and with the two courses being only an hour apart it made sense."

The victory put Pritchard top of the RCW2010 Order of Merit with three events to go, leading from Eastwood and Prentice.
