Lambourne's Michael O'Connor may not have played with Gareth Edwards in competition before but he is confident they can qualify for the SkyCaddie PGA Fourball Championship, supported by Sunderland in October.
The unfamiliarity does not end there as neither of the new pairing have played Woodcote Park, the location for the south region qualifier on Monday August 11.
And despite work commitments limiting practice time, O'Connor believes he and Edwards are both playing well enough to get through.
"Gareth and I have not played together before as a pair in competition but we know each other pretty well and are confident of qualifying," he said.
"We've played a lot in the Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire PGA events and we both usually do quite well.
"Now we're looking to take that forward on to the bigger stage.
"Neither of us have played the course before so we'll have to try and get a practice round in before the qualifier to get to know it a little better."
The Lambourne professional says Edwards' game complements his own, and admits he would love the chance for them to test the fledgling partnership at the championship at Fulford in October.
"Gareth's a player who often gets a lot of birdies," O'Connor continued. "He hits it quite a long way and I'm just pretty consistent and steady.
"I'm playing all right. I've been quite busy teaching so haven't had as much time for practising as I would have liked.
"I've come second and third in a few of pro-ams so it's been pretty good.
"Gareth's done similar and might have even won one I think.
"He has just started a new job and also hasn't been playing as much as he'd like.
He added: "It would be brilliant to qualify for the competition. A couple of guys at Lambourne have played it in the past and they say it's a really great event, so we're looking forward to giving it our best shot."
