Burke And Byrne Tie For First In Qualifier

Gerry Burke and Simon Byrne, of Curragh and Hermitage Golf Clubs respectively, secured their passage to the SkyCaddie PGA Fourball Championship, supported by Sunderland, after tying for first place in the Irish qualifier at Headfort on Tuesday, July 29.

The pair shot a five-under-par 67 to finish joint winners with Gary Chambers and Joe Frawley, and, along with 14 other pairings, contend the championship final at Fulford in north Yorkshire in October.

Fortwilliam's Peter Hanna and Portadown's Paul Stevenson tied for third place with Kirkistown Castle's Neil Graham and Portadown's David Hughes after coming in a shot back on 68.

There was another tie for fifth with Paul Vaughan and Lindsay Boyd and Kevin McGrath and David Mortimer both posting 69s.

The other partnerships to qualify were Shane Deegan and Steve Moore, Ryan McCann and Ian St John, Kevin Foy and Richard Creamer, Christopher McVitty and Donal Scott, Jim Robinson and Martin McTernan, Philip McLaughlin and Paul McDonald, Dara Ford and Michael Mulryan, Melvyn Flanagan and David Byrne, and Thomas O'Neill and Leo Hynes.
