Eagle Lands For Sherborne

Published in:

Andrew Sherborne had a spring in his step after eagling the first hole at Moortown to start his third round of the Glenmuir PGA Professional Championship in style.

The Kendleshire pro holed a 15 footer at the 488 yard par 5 first to move to two under for the tournament as heavy rain engulfed the Leeds course.

Notts pro Philip Edwards also helped himself to an eagle at the first followed up by birdies at the fifth and seventh fourth but promptly haemorrhaged shots with a double bogey at the sixth and bogeys at eight and nine.

Leeds-born Duncan Muscroft, who is based in Montecchia near Venice, picked up strokes at the first and second but a bogey on the third dropped him back to level for the championship.

Among the early finishers, Tim Maxwell (Knutsford) and Michael Watson (Wessex Golf Centre) had the pick of the scores with 68 and 69 respectively.

Watson at one stage was four under for his round after an outward 32 but his round hit the buffers as he began to struggle with his irons and bogeyed 10, 13 and 18.
