Brookes and Cameron Earn Bahrain Spot

Published in:

The Scottish regional qualifier for the Gulf Air International Pro-Captain Challenge, supported by BMW, may have been delayed by fog on Monday but there were plenty of highlights for Pitreavie's Paul Brookes and his captain, five-handicapper Ewan Cameron.

The pair tied for first at Crail Golf Club, with an eight-under-par 61 to finish alongside Andrew Crerar and David Crawford, winning on count back to secure their place in Bahrain at the end of the year.

Brookes and Cameron fired five birdies on the front nine and an eagle on the 11th sent them on their way to victory.

Paul Wardell and professional Guido Biccochi, a six-handicapper, narrowly missed out on winning the 2007 grand final but failed to earn another bite of the cherry after finishing tied for third on seven under, alongside Steven Dunsmore of Falkirk Trust and 13-handicapper Gary McSorley.

Wardell and Biccochi, representing Whitekirk, held a slender one-stroke first day lead on the His Majesty's Golf Course in Bahrain last year but dropped back on day two and missed out by three shots.

Crow Wood's Brian Moffat and captain Kenny Barbour completed the top five after posting a six-under-par 63.

Peterculter professional Dean Vannet provided the day's highlight with a hole in one on the par-three sixth.
