David Osborn and Alan Lovelace beat a host of teams including PGA Cup stalwarts Jon Bevan and George Ryall to win the South Region qualifier at Woodcote Park for the Skycaddie PGA Fourball Championship, supported by Sunderland.
Osborn and Lovelace posted an eight-under-par total of 63, beating joint runners-up Nicholas Mitchell and Nigel Hart and Matthew Barber and Gavin Lingard by a stroke in the fourball event.
Bevan (Wessex Golf Centre) and Ryall (The Players Club), who were the leading point scorers for Great Britain and Ireland in last year's PGA Cup matches in America, rekindled their partnership to great success to be among the seven qualifiers who also booked a final spot at Fulford on October 1-3.
Osborn, of West Hill, and Lovelace, representing Merrist Wood, reached the turn in three under before Osborn produced a stunning back nine to guide them to victory.
"But it was two different nines. On the back nine I played well and Alan was a bit off the pace."
Osborn produced back-to-back birdies at 14 and 15 before hitting a stunning drive at the par-five 16th.
That eventually led to an eagle as they pulled away from Newbury Golf Centre duo Mitchell and Hart and Chelsfield Lakes' Barber, who was accompanied by Poult Wood representative Lingard.
"It was a pretty decent drive," Osborn said of his effort at the 16th.
"Alan's drive at the 18th was the complete opposite - it was dreadful. Although it was pretty funny.
"I'm glad to make the finals. I've never played them before but Alan's qualified before and done well so we'll look forward to it."
In all seven pairs go forward from today's event to the finals at Fulford, which begin on October 1.
