Hard Work Pays Off For Curl

Published in:

Tiverton assistant David Curl was rewarded for all the hard work he has put in over the years with his first victory in a Devon PGA medal.

He achieved what so few pros do when they visit Downes Crediton by knocking prolific home pro Barry Austin into second place.

His two-under-par 68 earned him a two shot victory over Austin in a record field of 38 professionals in the first event in the Devon PGA Order of Merit series.

Curl, who has rarely missed a medal, puts his much improved form down to working on his rhythm which has led to increased confidence and self belief.

Austin shared second with Exeter's Chris Gill who is now gearing up for the second stage of European Tour School.

Fingle Glen's Paul Hendriksen, another Devon player heading to European qualifying, was fourth on 71 ahead of six players on 72.
