Glyn Krause's revamped swing will be put to the test when he tees up in the Senior PGA Professional Championship next week.
The Cambridgeshire professional is among a strong field assembling at Northants County (May 27-29) for the 54-hole event which carries a £35,000 prize fund.
Krause, head professional at Elton Furze in Peterborough, overhauled his game during the winter in a bid to improve after narrowly missing out on a European Senior Tour card at qualifying school.
"I played alright in the last two rounds at Q-school but I just couldn't make a birdie - I went 27 holes without making one and when the putts don't drop it leaves you up against it," said the 51-year-old who was a late entrant to the paid ranks only turning professional in his early 30s when he played on the European and Challenge Tours.
The 51-year-old admits he is struggling to find his best form but he has a good record at Northants County where he finished tied sixth last year behind champion Bill Lockie (North Gailes) and also played there many times as an amateur.
"I'm looking forward to it because I just love the Northants County course, it's always presented nicely and I used to play there a lot as an amateur," he said.
If he can perform well at Northants County he will also earn a return to Slaley Hall and entry into the De Vere Collection PGA Seniors Championship (June 25-28) alongside the likes of defending champion Gordon J Brand and Sam Torrance.
"I'm aiming to finish top 20. I'd love to go back to Slaley Hall as I played there last year but didn't do too well although it was very hard with the weather," he added.
"It would be great to be able to play a few more senior events and challenge myself against the best."
Other PGA East Region pros in action at Northants County, which is celebrating its centenary this year, include Robin Mann (Felixstowe Golf Range), Bill McColl (Leigh Driving Range), John Hudson (Rivenhall Oaks), Graham Burroughs (Boyce Hill) and Frank Hill (Thorpeness).
