Martin Edge cruised to a three shot victory to win a place in the final of the Crown Golf English PGA Assistants' Championship at the first attempt.

The young Hesketh assistant marked his debut in the event with an impressive two under par 69 at Cotgrave in Nottingham to win through to September's final at Hampton Court Palace.

Edge's round included four birdies at three, seven, 12 and 16 with just two dropped shots coming at the ninth and 17.

The 20-year-old finished three clear of a trio in second place with Jak Hamblett (Handsworth), Richard Reed (Notts) and Andrew Jones (Stonebridge) all shooting one over par 72s.

Spaldington's Paul Bradshaw, who reached last year's final, and Gathurst's David Wilcock grabbed the last of six qualifying spots by each birdieing the first extra play-off hole to come out on top in a seven way play-off.
