Two-time winner Carl Mason made an early move on resumption of play in the third round of the De Vere Collection PGA Seniors Championship at Slaley Hall.
Heavy fog had earlier left competitors kicking their heels for the best part of five hours with an impromptu putting contest between spectators and the tour stars the highlight of the morning.
But as the weather cleared and play resumed shortly before 1.50pm, the 2004 & 2007 champion capitalised with an eagle and two birdies to move to five under par.
Gordon Brand Junior also took advantage of the near perfect scoring conditions to move to four under par including a lucky break on 12 when he holed a 40ft chip for an eagle.
Overnight leader Angel Franco was also at four under par through seven holes while Ian Woosnam finally discovered some form on the greens with three successive birdies on four, five and six.
PGA Cup player George Ryall, playing alongside the former Ryder Cup captain, was level for his round heading to the eighth.
