Taylor takes Orsett spoils

Brett Taylor of Chelmsford won the Orsett Pro-Am to provide him with a confidence boost before he plays in the Open local qualifier at Glasgow Gailes on Monday.

Taylor, last year's leader of the PGA East Region Order of Merit, opened his round in style. He had an eagle at the 504-yard par five opening hole. Then he undid the good work with a double bogey at the par four second hole. After that he had five birdies and one more dropped shot.

Joint runners-up, one shot behind, were Kevin Earp of Bury Golf Range and Roger Gray of Thorndon Park. Gray included an eagle at the 511 yard seventh hole.

Neil Mitchell, attached to Bury Golf Range, took fourth place with two under par 70. Mark Davis (Thorndon Park), Mark Stokes (Rayleigh Golf Range) and Caroline Grady (De Vere Dunston Hall) were the only other players under par. They shared fifth place with rounds of 71.

Liam Clarke of West Middlesex bought home the winning team at 15-under-par. They were four shots better than teams with Gray and Grady.
