Darren Prosser, the Halfpenny Green pro and former Tour stalwart, carded a rare albatross on his opening hole in the Rotary Classic Charity Pro-Am at Copt Heath.
Prosser sank his approach shot - a magnificently struck 3-iron - on the 540-yard, par five 15th hole (his first) but, despite three further birdies, failed to make a real dent on the leaderboard. A disappointing triple-bogey seven on the 454-yard second hole cost him dear as he finished on two-under-par for the tournament with Daniel Greenwood, of Forest Pines, sweeping to victory.
Greenwood shot six-under-par to claim top spot ahead of Hinckley's Jason Powell and a chasing pack including Simon Lilly (Kettering), James Whatley (East Midlands Golf Academy), Mark Mouland (Nailcote Hall) and Tim Rouse (Northants County).
Greenwood, who started poorly with a bogey, then carded nine birdies in his round despite leaving another two shots on the course.
Powell trailed home a shot behind on 66 after seven birdies kept him ahead of the pack.
Birstall's David Clark and James Crompton, of Kenilworth, shared seventh place on three-under-par in a successful charity tournament which raised more than £7,000 for the Knowle and Dorridge Rotarians.
Prosser closed on 69 alongside Andrew Cox (Wast Hills), Paul Wesselingh (Kedleston Park), Ian Walley (Shirland) and Mathew Morris (Stourbridge).
