Mouland on song at Hinckley

Welshman Mark Mouland was in imperious form as he cruised to victory in the PGA CityGolf Hinckley Pro-Am.

The Nailcote Hall Pro, who defends his British Par 3 Championship crown on his own course in August, started brilliantly with a birdie and marked a further six before his round was done, five of them on the front nine!

Even two dropped shots after the turn couldn't dampen his ardour and he finished two clear of James Whatley (East Midlands Golf Academy) whose blemish-free card included three birdies.

John Banbury (Moor Hall) and Bob Larratt (Kibworth) pushed hard with mixed scorecards, the latter coming unstuck at the 403-yard, par four 13th, where he marked for a double-bogey six.

Home pros Mark Whittle and Jason Powell failed to take advantage of their local knowledge, finishing on one-under-par alongside Ian Walley (Shirland), Karl Whitehead (Marriott Forest of Arden), Craig Phillips (Nuneaton) and Daniel Greenwood (Forest Pines).
