Gloucester and Somerset PGA chairman David Haines (Brean) returned from injury to win the medal at The Mendip with a flurry of birdies.
But his score of one-under-par 70 was matched by George Ryall (Players Club) who retained his five-point lead over Haines in the Order of Merit.
The course had a covering of snow the previous day but was in good shape. Haines was back in action after missing the previous event at Thornbury due to a sprained ankle sustained while fencing.
He made a blistering start with birdies at the first and fourth and an eagle at the third when he holed a four-iron took him to four-under.
But he made only two further birdies and dropped five shots although he did win the birdie sweep, despite missing a tiddler on the last.
Ryall was far more consistent. He started with birdies at the first and fourth and finished with a birdie three for an inward nine of one-under 33.
Home professional John Goymer was one of four players tied for third on 72. He was joined by Bath amateur Charlie Cossins, Saltford's Darren Read and Trevor Jones from Hambrook.
