Day’s bright idea

More than 40 PGA professionals have applied to be involved in a freshly-launched junior academy programme in Hertfordshire.

The Hertfordshire Golf Partnership Academy Programme is the brainchild of PGA Fellow Professional Mark Day of Whipsnade Golf Club.

The 35-year-old has taken on the role coach co-ordinator following a highly successful launch at Mill Hill golf club at the end January, which saw 53 coaches attend the event.

In addition, Day has created a series of skill challenges for all aspects of the game from driving through to putting, with the results analysed on a profile wheel to instantly measure strengths and weaknesses.

"When I created this programme it was in order for juniors to assess every aspect of their game and to find out what their handicap would be for each of these aspects," he said.

"These results can then be brought to training sessions allowing the coach to make the sessions much more targeted."
