Clark in command

Defending champion Cameron Clark has signalled his intentions to retain the Fineturf Midlands Professionals Championship.

Moor Hall professional Clark, the current Midland PGA Region captain, fired two flawless six-under-par rounds of 66 to take a two-shot lead going into the final day at De Vere Belton Woods. Both rounds concluded with eagle three on the par five 18th.

His nearest challenger is Order of Merit leader Mathew Morris (Walmley), who carded two 67s. His two rounds included 11 birdies, an eagle at the 18th on his first round plus three dropped shots.

Paul Streeter, winner of the last two pro-ams, sits in third place, three off the pace on nine under.

The Lincoln Golf Centre pro opened his assault with a three-under 69 before shooting a 66 in the afternoon to keep him in contention.

Fourth spot is shared by Direct Golf's Daniel Clarke and East Midlands Golf Academy pro James Whatley who are seven shots off the overnight lead at five-under-par.
