Padraig Harrington claimed the Irish PGA Championship for a third successive year and sixth title in all.

Tom Watson almost rewrites the record books as he dominates the Open Championship at Turnberry, however he misses out on the title losing to Stewart Cink in a four-hole play-off.

The oldest surviving Ryder Cup player John Panton, passes away at the age of 92. Panton played in three Ryder Cups - 1951, 53 and 61, represented Scotland 12 times in the World Cup and was an eight-time winner of the Scottish Professional Championship.

PGA chief executive Sandy Jones is awarded and honorary doctorate from the University of Birmingham in recognition of his services to golf.

Loren Roberts claimed the Senior British Open title at Sunningdale - defeating Mark McNulty and Fred Funk in a play-off.

The R&A hands over a grant of almost £500,000 to expand and improve the PGA's training programmes.

Golf is voted into the 2016 Olympic games having last been competed for in 1904.

Bromsgrove-based professional Neil Selwyn Smith attains Master Professional status.

The USA claim the Presidents Cup over a rest of the world side in San Fancisco.

Neil Cheetham claims the North Region Order of Merit title after wining the final event of the year - the North Region Championship.

Herefordshire's Katy Edwards claims her maiden WPGA victory at Little Aston. Laura Eastwood claimed the Order of Merit for a second time.

Matfen Hall's John Harrison secures Seniors Tour card for 2010

The LET announce that Alison Nicholas will say on Solheim Cup captain for the 2011 contest in Ireland.

Matfen Hall pro John Harrison tops European Senior Tour school to secure his card. Also gaining his card is fellow PGA Cup player Fraser Mann.

Lee Westwood wins the inaugural Dubai World Championship and also the Race to Dubai crown Rory McIlroy finishes second and Martin Kaymer third.

Five years after its inceptions the PGA agree to be a key player on the re-vamped London Golf & Tennis Show. Having watched the event go from strength to strength, chief executive Sandy Jones believed the time was right to be involved.

Performance-enhancing sportswear manufacturer Skins agree a three-year deal to sponsor the PGA Fourball Championship.

US Ryder Cup captain Corey Pavin (pictured) becomes the first American to receive the PGA Recognition Award.
