Football legend and knight of the realm Sir Bobby Charlton is confirmed as the guest of honour at this year's graduation ceremony - which will be held at Birmingham University for the first time.

Rory McIlroy celebrates winning the Dubai Desert Classic

Colin Montgomerie is named as the shock selection to captain Europe at the 2010 Ryder Cup. The Scot had been a 50-1 outsider but he secured the job ahead of other contenders Ian Woosnam, Jose Maria Olazabal and Ian Woosnam.

Teenager Rory McIlroy secures his first professional victory after winning the Dubai Desert Classic.

The PGA donates £11,000 to Elizabeth Montgomerie Foundation - set up by Colin Montgomerie in memory of his mother.

Coventry-based professional Martin Sutliff is spreading the golfing gospel after flying out to Nigeria to give some tuition to some of the youngsters in the village of Erinmope.

New Zealand amateur Danny Lee becomes the youngest ever player to win a European Tour event at the age of 18 years and 213 days. He also became only the second amateur to win a tour event.

Dubai-based Jason Froggatt is named Middle East instructor of the year for the second successive year.

Colin Montgomerie chalked up his 500th European Tour appearance at the Open de Andalucia.

PGA Cup winning captain Jim Farmer, the honorary professional at St Andrews, is appointed PGA captain.

Paul Casey's year gets better as he seals his maiden USPGA Tour win with victory at the Houston Open.

Hull professional David Jagger saw member power save his job after being served with his notice. More 300 members called an EGM to insist he was reinstated.

Argentine Angel Cabrera added The Masters title to his 2007 Us Open victory - beating Kenny Perry and Chad Campbell in a play-off. Not one European player finished in the top 16.

Scotland's Jonnie Cliff (Murrayfield, pictured right) is named the PGA Assistant of the Year, collecting his trophy from Sir Bobby Charlton. Robert Irvine (Douglas Park) is second with Danny Malcolm (Newark) third. Former LET star Alison Munt is the Female Assistant of the Year. Jonathan Shipstone takes the honours for year two, with Sarah-Jane Eaves (Quinta da Vale) top Rookie.

Dean Robertson is named head coach of the European team competing in June's Palmer Cup.

Five-time champion Padraig Harrington confirms he will defend his Irish PGA Championship crown at The European Club.

Former Irish amateur Marion Riordan becomes the first female golfer to qualify for the Irish PGA Championship.

Paul Casey wins the BMW PGA Championship - his third title of the year - and moves up a record high of third spot in the world rankings.

Heather McRae's ability sees her become the first woman in almost 80 years to qualify for the Gleneagles Scottish PGA Championship.

A host of PGA pros pick up awards during the BMW PGA Championship. New Zealand-born Leanne Cooper (Llanwern) received the Golf Foundation's Sinclair Award. Pedham Place pro Jon Woodroffe was given the Burroughs Award.

The Toby Sunderland award was presented to Shirley professional Stuart Bottrill in recognition of his work with disabled children.

Craig Lee, back on the Tartan Tour, wins the Northern Open.

2009 PGA Cup Team captained by Gary Alliss

PGA professional Andrew Butterfield (Sundridge Park) lands his first Challenge Tour title after 13 years trying.

The PGA Cup team to take on the US in September is revealed following the Glenmuir PGA Professional Championship at Dundonald Links. Stalwart Paul Wesselingh (Kedleston Park, pictured back row, third from right) qualified for the sixth successive time.

Six countries - France, Holland, Spain, Germany, Portugal and Sweden - announce their intention to bid for 2018 Ryder Cup.

Lucas Glover held his nerve and the chasing pack to clinch US Open title, which went into a fifth day after being hit by the weather.
