Who we are

What does The Professional Golfers’ Association do?

  • We do a lot but what The PGA and PGA Professionals do best is enhance the golfing experience of hundreds of thousands of golfers across the world.

How do we do that?

  • We are a members’ organisation and educate and train PGA Professionals to degree level with the very latest skills and expertise to operate in all areas of golf so golfers can enjoy and play better golf while golf clubs can benefit from the successful management of their facility.

Anything else?

  • Plenty, The PGA plays a prominent role in growing and promoting the game through initiatives with other leading golf bodies. This includes England Golf, Club Golf in Scotland plus similar projects in Ireland and Wales. In addition the PGA and its members feature prominently overseas where the high regard of GB&I PGA pros is reflected in 1,500 of our members being based in 70 plus countries.

Did we mention that we are also the world’s oldest PGA?

  • We were formed in 1901 and past illustrious members include the Great Triumverate of Harry Vardon, James Braid and JH Taylor while current members include Ryder Cup legend Ian Poulter and 1999 Open Champion Paul Lawrie. Many of our early PGA pros also proved instrumental in the founding of the PGAs of America, Australia and Canada.

  • Furthermore The PGA is a partner of one of sport’s biggest events – the Ryder Cup. The PGA is the trustee of the famous trophy which has one of its most famous members, Abe Mitchell, adorning the gold trophy.

And moving forward?

  • With golf continuing to grow on a worldwide level, The PGA remains committed to providing its members with lifelong learning to meet the challenges facing the golf industry while simultaneously helping advance  the sport and the industry and ensuring that participation upholds the protocols, values and integrity of the game which were outlined when the Association was formed.
