PGA Training Programme

The PGA Training Programme is a dynamic and exciting course designed exclusively to meet the needs of the golf industry and PGA Professionals.

The programme provides you with the skills and knowledge relevant to a career in golf and eligibility to membership of the PGA of GB&I.

Upon successful completion of the PGA Training Programme you will have gained:

  • A qualification in higher education (see routes below),
  • Work experience in a golf environment,
  • Both ASQ Level 1 and 2 certificates in golf coaching,
  • Certification of completion of a Child Protection course,
  • A First Aid Certificate, and,
  • Experience in playing in Professional golf events.

Graduation from the Training Programme can lead to a variety of career opportunities anywhere in the world.

Education Routes

As part of the PGA Training Programme, there are both part-time and full-time higher education routes:

Part-Time Study

  1. The Foundation Degree in Professional Golf Studies is awarded by the University of Birmingham and is delivered by the PGA.
  2. The Professional Golf PGA Diploma in Higher Education is awarded by the University of Highlands and Islands and is delivered by the PGA.

Whilst studying part-time primarily via distance learning, you’ll be working in a golf environment for a minimum of 30-hours per week.

Full-Time Study

  1. The Applied Golf Management Studies programme is a full-time honours degree course awarded by the University of Birmingham and is delivered by the PGA and University of Birmingham.
  2. The Professional Golf BA is a is a full-time honours degree course awarded and delivered by the University of Highlands and Islands.

Whilst studying full-time at University, you’ll have opportunities to go on work placements in a golf environment.
