University of Birmingham

The PGA has forged a strong partnership with the University of Birmingham which accredits and awards the PGA Foundation Degree in Professional Golf that all aspiring PGA Members must undertake.

In addition The PGA and the University also jointly deliver an honours degree in Applied Golf Management Studies that provides a full-time alternative for individuals seeking a more traditional academic route towards PGA Membership.

Each year approximately 250 PGA Professionals celebrate at The PGA graduation ceremony at the University’s Great Hall.  Each year a special guest is invited to help mark the occasion.  Previous guests include Sir Bobby Charlton, Sir Clive Woodward and, most recently, BBC news reader Naga Munchetty.

The ties with the University have also been extended with the launch of an Advanced Certificate in Golf Coaching, and an MSc/Post Graduate Diploma in Sports Coaching.

The PGA and the University’s reputation was recognised when it was mentioned in a European Commission White Paper which praised the PGA/UoB programme and highlighted the exemplary partnership between the two in the development of professional coaching qualifications in golf.
