Please note, Level 3 and Level 4 applications are currently closed, as both qualifications are in the process of being reviewed and developed to support and develop coaches as effectively as possible. The detail and structure of the qualifications will be subject to review and change going forward.
Qualifications at Levels 1 and 2 have been available to PGA Assistant Professionals and volunteer coaches supporting the growth and development of the game of golf across Great Britain & Ireland since January 2008.
The qualifications at Levels 3 and 4 are aimed at ambitious coaches looking to expand their skills and knowledge on their development journey towards becoming an expert coach within their chosen field.
A coach at Level 3 will be expected to be able to produce, deliver and evaluate annual coaching plans for individual golfers. These plans will consider all aspects of the players' game, including the science behind golfing performance.
The Level 4 qualification (the pinnacle of the coach education pathway), will require coaches to adopt a critical approach to coaching and apply postgraduate research methods and thinking to their performance and behaviour as a coach.
The diagram below outlines the full coach education pathway. This pathway includes qualifications from Level 1 to Level 4, plus a number of qualifications delivered in partnership with the University of Birmingham (Foundation Degree, AGMS degree, Advanced Certificate in Coaching Golf and the MSc/Post Graduate Diploma in Sports Coaching).
