Coaching Golf in Scotland

Coachingscottishgolf

The PGA, sportscotland and the Golf Foundation are partners in ClubGolf, Scottish Golf's National Junior Programme. Supported by the Scottish Government, this is a Ryder Cup 2014 legacy project.

ClubGolf offers children a structured programme which supports their early development as golfers. ClubGolf is aligned to Scottish Golf's Player Pathway, ensuring opportunities for talented players to progress further based on their potential, commitment and achievement.

Along with PGA Professional coaches, Volunteer Level 1 coaches are an essential part of the early stages of the ClubGolf programme as they seek to introduce young people to the basics of golf and inspire them to become involved in golf for life. There are various coaching roles that support the ClubGolf Player Pathway, with opportunities for teachers, volunteers and golf professionals to get involved.

Throughout the 300 golf clubs and facilities across Scotland delivering the ClubGolf programme there are around 180 PGA Professionals and 1000 volunteer golf coaches delivering coaching sessions.

PGA Professionals can deliver at all stages of the ClubGolf programme as well as being part of the Roving Pro and adult Get into Golf initiatives. For more information on the coaching aspects of the ClubGolf programme visit: clubgolfscotland.com/coaches-clubs/coach-support

Scottish Golf will provide funding support for coaches who are delivering ClubGolf coaching, Scotland's National Junior Golf Programme.

Individuals interested in becoming involved as a volunteer on the ClubGolf programme should find out whether their club is involved in the programme and then speak to the PGA Professional, Coaching Co-ordinator or Junior Convenor to find out more.

The club will receive support from a Scottish Golf Club Development Officer. In addition, PGA Professionals can also receive support from Allan Martin, the PGA Coach Education Manager (Scotland) at: allan.martin.pga.org.uk or on 07827 945 838 and from ClubGolf Coach Developers. The PGA provide and deliver coach education qualifications and courses.

The Scottish Golf Club Development Officers contacts can be found at scottishgolf.org/players/new-to-golf/clubgolf/and click on 'Club Services'.

If you are interested in becoming a Level 1 Volunteer coach or moving on to Level 2 please register your interest.
