Fast nine: Garon Park

Garon Park Golf Club, which covers 250 acres in Southend-on-Sea, revels in the opportunities that nine hole golf offers.

With its 27 holes made up of three 9s and another nine-hole par 3 course, from beginners and youngsters to established players, relaxed retirees to time-poor parents, every potential golf market is catered for.

You could say the whole place is built for nine-hole golf.

“We have a lot of nine hole members,” Garon Park owner and PGA Professional Alan Walker explained.

“And it is an important market. These are the kind of golfers who feel they could manage two rounds of nine a week taking a couple of hours.

“But they are put off by the prospect of four to five hours playing 18.

“For clubs, members, beginners and the pros, nine holes is a great proposition.”
