Fast nine: Panmure

Panmure Golf Club was one of the Open Qualifying venues that showcased the R&A’s quick nine initiative.

But they were already firm believers of the nine-hole concept – despite the natural geographical obstacles created by the links layout.

“The course does not lend itself naturally to playing nine holes,” Head Professional Andrew Crerar explained.

“But we can create a loop using the first five and the last four holes. It is a little awkward, but it has enabled us to lay on a regular events over the summer.”

The quick nine format runs from mid-May to September and is held on a Friday night.

“We start things around 5-5.30pm with the idea of having everyone back in the clubhouse for some food and drink by 7pm.”

With between 20 and 30 players involved each week, it looks all set to be back on the calendar again in 2017.
