Alex aiming for top ten return in Ireland

Addington Court Golf Club’s Alex MacGregor will looking to summon up the form that earned him a top 10 finish when he competes in his fourth Titleist & FootJoy PGA Professional Championship final.

MacGregor won the South B qualifying event on countback at The Lambourne Club after carding a three under par round of 69,

That matched Gerrards Cross Golf Club’s Lewis Atkinson’s score - but MacGregor had a better back nine and took the honours.

The pair finished one shot ahead of Silvermere Golf Club’s Callum Scott at the Buckinghamshire course.

And they will join nine other qualifiers at the £78,000 grand final which is being staged in Ireland this year - with Luttrellstown Castle Golf & Country Club hosting the event between June 13-16.

Cornwall-born MacGregor admits that, despite an impressive 10th place finish at Blairgowrie in Scotland three years ago, he wants an improvement on his recent displays.

“I’ve made the final for the past four years, including this one,” said the Croydon club’s teaching professional.

“It’s been ups and downs, I’ve had a 10th place in 2014 but some missed cuts as well.

“There was one good one north of the border, and two not so good.

“I’m excited to be there again though and it’ll be good to get away for the week with the final being in Ireland.

“I’ve been over there once, but I don’t know anything about Luttrellstown, I’ve heard reports that it’s good though. The courses always are at this stage so I’m sure it’ll be a treat to play.”

MacGregor’s round featured an eagle at the par four ninth hole - before ending with a birdie at the 18th.

“The ninth was a slightly shortened hole but I got a good tee shot to within about 15 inches, that was nice and it kick started the round for me,” he said.

“That doesn’t happen every day so it was good to get that momentum.

“Then I managed to nick one at the last to end on a high.”
