A superb bogey-free first round of 65 sees Robert Arnott lead the Grant's Foods Scottish PGA Senior Professional Championship at Haggs Castle Golf Club.

The 53-year-old spreadeagled the field with a superb seven-under-par in the first round.

The Bishopbriggs Golf Range pro enjoyed a dream start of an eagle 3 at the first hole and followed that with five birdies at the third, sixth, 15th, 17th and 18th.

In-form Arnott, who narrowly missed out on qualifying for the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open, leads the field of 26 by four shots at the half-way stage of the 36-hole tournament, for which the minimum age was reduced from 50 to 48 years.

Hayston's Peter Kerr finished the opening round in second place after scoring 69. His round included five birdies, with three coming at the 16th, 17th and 18th in a grandstand finish.

Fraser Mann (Carnoustie Golf Links), winner of the Silversea Senior PGA Championship for the second time in three years at Foxhills earlier this season, is in third place on his own with a two-under 70. Mann too had a grandstand finish - a birdie at the 17th and an eagle 3 at the last.

Eagles were flying all over the place at Haggs Castle. Fourth-placed Duncan Williamson got a 2 at the par-4 12th in halves of 36 and 35 for a 71.
