Former Somerset county amateur Louis Boston has won his first regional pro-am in a three-way tie with in-form players Michael Watson (Wessex Golf Centre) and Ashley Mansell (Clevedon).

The assistant at at Stockwood Vale in Bristol, now in his final year of training, shot two-over-par at Truro in vile conditions of persistent rain.

The highlights were an eagle three on the seventh and a solitary birdie on the 15th.  He finished fourth in the previous event at Remedy Oak and has won twice on the Gloucester and Somerset PGA circuit.

All players made more bogeys or doubles on a day of high scoring in the unsavoury conditions, despite the greens being in excellent condition.

Watson was the day’s most consistent player, dropping shots at the fifth, sixth and 15th before his solitary birdie on the last. Mansell, winner at Remedy Oak, bogeyed the fifth and 13th with one birdie on the sixth.

Chris Gill (Newquay), Richard O’Hanlon (St Kew) and Nick Williams (St Enodoc) were the high birdie scorers with four each.

This was the highest scoring for seven years in the annual pro-am that concludes a week-long festival.

Truro captain Phil Hodges, his son Jason and Scott Mayne won the team prize with the PMH Decorators group led by Christian Vine (Thorn Park Family Golf Centre) on 12-under-par 122.

Watson and the Air Force One team of Henry Cooper, Andy Ring and Cornwall county player Peter Simmonds were one shot behind.  Tony Nash (Porthpean), once Cornwall’s outstanding golfer who seldom plays now, led the Donnington Guest House team of Darrah Dunleavy, Matt Gunn and Mark Bicknell into third on 126.

They beat teams led by Ross Whitelock (St Mellion) and  Paul Turpin  (Carlyon Bay) on countback.
