Ian Campbell (Cheshunt Park) secured his first victory of 2017 after a firing a fine 65 in the Crews Hill Pro-Am.

The Scot shot five-under-par to beat Mark Talbott (Thorpe Hall) by a stroke with Glen Portelli (Old Fold Manor), David Salisbury (Three Rivers G&CC) and James Scade (Little Channels Golf Centre) all tied for third.

Campbell was in top form from the start as he opened up with a birdie and his tee-to-green game proved almost faultless. He moved to three under at the turn and kept up his birdie blitz down the stretch.

By the 17th he had got it to six-under-par before a solitary blip at the last. But ultimately it didn’t prove costly.

Campbell said: “I played really and hit the first 17 greens in regulation – I don’t think I’ve ever done that before!

“Crews Hill is the sort of course where you have to play for position off the tee and try to get the right side of the green. I managed to do that pretty well.”
