Captain’S Innings At Prince’S For Tarchetti And Spratt

The PGA in Kent captain and Director of Golf at Prince’s, Anthony Tarchetti, and his amateur partner Mark Spratt, have come out on top in the character building PGA Prince’s 27.

A delighted Tarchetti commented: “This event is the perfect way for Prince’s three nines – and especially the recent refurbished Himalaya’s nine – to be celebrated. The foursomes and greensomes formats lend themselves to quicker golf as well, so my thanks and congratulations go to The PGA in England (South) for putting their shoulder behind what everyone’s agreed was a highly successful event.”

38 teams played 27 holes in three different stroke play formats over the three nines at Prince’s GC, with the PGA Pro and amateur playing Foursomes on the Shore course, Greensomes on the Dunes, and a Fourball BetterBall over the Himalayas.

After the opening Foursomes nine, Canterbury’s Richard Wallis and amateur Gavin Feaver, Lee-on-the-Solent’s James Ablett and partner Neil Shepperd, and Purley Downs’s Kevin O’Connell playing with Peter Carron were tied for the lead on 36 strokes. Three behind with a lot to do were the team of Tarchetti and Spratt.

Suitably inspired, they shot an impressive 32 playing Greensomes over the Dunes nine to win the second round by one stroke from Weald of Kent’s Jacques Gous and his partner Simon Head. Better still, they were now tied with O’Connell and Carron, and two ahead of both the teams of Wallis and Feaver, and Ablett and Shepperd.

Going into the final nine, while The Pro-Am Tour’s Craig Trower and partner Matt Tomkins won this round with a superb six-under-par 30, and Ablett and Shepperd’s 31 made them runners up, Tarchetti and Spratt still shot a four-under-par 32 to claim the PGA Prince’s 27 crown and £550.

In second place overall was the team of Cooden Beach’s Paul Nessling and partner Nick Hill, with Ablett and Shepperd consoled with third spot.

Prince’s is also playing host to the third event in the 2018 Virgin Atlantic PGA South Order of Merit, the much anticipated PGA Kent Open Championship on the 20th and 21st of August.
