No players broke par as three players tied in the final South Wales PGA medal of the winter series in constant 20mph winds at Machynys.

Caerphilly’s Kevin Davies, this year’s PGA in South Wales captain, started well with birdies on the third and fourth holes. But he followed with three bogeys and a double with only one further birdie on the last.

His two-over-par 74 was matched by Toby Hunt (St Mellons) who eagled the downwind par five third hole.

The current West Region seniors’ champion Martin Stimson (Ashburnham) also carded 74 in a topsy-turvey round that contained six birdies and eight dropped shots.

Order of Merit winner Craig Melding (Neath) was fourth on 76. He shared with Simon Askins (Southerndown) and Richard Bentham (Hensol Golf Academy).

Askins and amateur Jake Hapgood, playing off a plus-three handicap, won the team event on seven-under-par 65. They beat Stimson and his father Nigel by one shot with Bentham and Sophie Madsen third a further shot behind.
