Duo tie up at Littlestone

Paul Nessling (Cooden Beach) and Chris Gane (Left Handed Golf at Silvermere) made the most of the sunny but breezy weather, shooting cards of four-under par 67 to tie for victory in the Littlestone Charity Pro-Am.

Winner of the PGA Surrey Open just over a month ago, Nessling’s round marked a return to form and the winner’s podium with his fifth victory this year, while Gane made it his fourth to date.

They edged out Bob Cameron’s 68 into third spot, while Pentland’s Benn Barham followed that with a 69.

Nessling was delighted to be back in the winner’s circle, saying: “My form’s not been quite so hot over the past month, so it’s great to get back in the groove again.

"I made the most of the front nine, and was pleased with the way I tackled the back nine, especially after dropping a shot on the 16th. I knew I needed to find one more birdie, so making one at the 18th was very satisfying.”

Gane, whose last victory was at Betchworth Park in June, was equally pleased as he explained: “I’ve been close a few times at West Hill, Stoneham and Alresford, so it was good to be in a position to win again.”

“Under the conditions we had today, Littlestone’s back nine’s really challenging, so after reaching five-under at the 10th, I knew I was in good shape but that I had my work cut out to make pars all the way back.

"I was prepared for dropping a shot somewhere, and duly did at the 16th, so I’m happy that all my hard work on the first ten holes was still rewarded!”

Nessling opened with two birdies before bogeying the third, but two more got him to the turn in three-under. The next birdie, at the 15th, was offset by dropping a shot on the next hole, but Nessling finished strongly with a birdie down the last hole for his 67.

Gane made four birdies on his opening nine to turn in four-under and added another at the 10th to lead, but his par run all the way home was spoiled by a bogey at the 16th, leaving him tied with Nessling.
