Damien Mooney (Damien Mooney Golf) eagled the par four fifth on his way to a three shot victory in the Dr William Flynn Memorial Pro-Am.

Mooney holed out from 97 yards in a blistering burst of scoring that saw him reach the turn in six under 32 at Shannon Golf Club, Co. Clare.

“I've been playing nicely all year. I feel like I am hitting the ball as well as ever,” said Damien who is currently teaching at Blackwood Golf Centre and Dunmurry Golf Club.

“Sometimes the results don't reflect that. Things happen in golf. You miss a green in the wrong place, you drop a shot, you just don't get the rub of the green, that's just the way it goes.

“On this occasion, I scored reasonably well and it wasn't easy. You can see that from the scoring. It was quite breezy, the course was in fantastic condition but it wasn't straightforward, the wind was gusting in around the trees.”

Unfortunately, the Belfast golfer failed to maintain his early momentum after the turn, with a trio of bogeys at the 14th, 15th and 16th slowing his charge. However, his tally of seven birdies, an eagle and four bogeys gave him a three-shot cushion on second placed Philip Walton, who signed for a two-under par 70.

Limerick's Tim Rice and amateur partners – D Gallagher, J Reilly and A Dillan - won the team prize with 90 points.
