Els and Lee tie up West Surrey

19/06/2019

Nico Els (Professional Golf Tuition Breaks) celebrated his third win of the season at the West Surrey Pro-Am, tying with Geoff Lee on 67 to split the winner’s pot and end up with £900 each.

But celebrating with Lanson Champagne and a £500 bonus was West Surrey’s own PGA Head Professional Duncan Giblett, thanks to hitting the closest shot in the exciting post-Pro-Am Lanson Shootout.

One-under after nine, Lee dropped two shots at 10 and 11, but bounced straight back in impressive style with birdies at the 12th and 13th, and he then racked up three more at the 15th, 16th and 18th to set the target as the clubhouse leader.

A few groups behind Lee, Els reached the turn in level par, but after birdies at 10 and 11, things calmed down with a run of pars over the next five holes. But with two holes left, the recently crowned champion of The PGA in Surrey dug deep and delivered two more birdies down the stretch to claim his share of the winner’s podium.

The Lanson Shootout was held straight after the last group finished in the Pro-Am. Set up from 180 yards to the 18th pin, with the top three Professionals in the individual event showing their prowess with the best of their three shots each, local hero Giblett showed everyone how to do it.

In the team event Ashley Dart (Foxhills) led his group home to victory with -14, beating by one stroke the teams led by James Johnson from Effingham and that man Els again.
