Employee recognition: Where are you at?

05/12/2023

Adam Keable, a director at Colt Mackenzie McNair (CMM), stresses the importance of recognising colleagues in an industry focused on creating memorable experiences.

Acknowledging employees not only bolsters morale, retention and loyalty, but also fosters a positive work culture that resonates with customers.

Unfortunately, a recent study found that 65% of employees haven't received recognition in the past year, leading to decreased motivation and a significant factor in 75% of job departures.

Are you actively looking for recognition moments?

Recognition needs to be an active lens that you and you managers wear rather than an ad hoc reaction. If you don’t seek them out, then the moments will be missed.

  1. Anniversary - Acknowledge team members' yearly milestones, celebrating their achievements and impact on the company.
  2. Birthdays - Embrace a familial atmosphere by celebrating team birthdays, fostering engagement and unity.
  3. Timely Milestones - Recognize project completions promptly to ensure impactful acknowledgment.
  4. Personal Growth - Appreciate individuals for investing time in personal development, acknowledging their new skills and efforts.
  5. Innovative Ideas - Recognize team members who suggest new ideas, encouraging innovation within the group.
  6. Company Values - Acknowledge and appreciate those embodying the company's values, encouraging consistent adherence among the team.
