Financial advisors turn to golf to raise cash for charity

PGA Midland associate sponsors, Newcastle-under-Lyme-based financial advisors the IronMarket Group, has turned to golf to raise funds for a ward at the Royal Stoke University Hospital.

The group, which sponsored one of the region’s Order of Merit tournaments two years ago and is preparing to offer its PGA Members a free health check and series of financial workshops later in the year, is running a charity golf day next month.

Scheduled for Monday August 20, the day will be staged just over the Staffordshire border at The Mere, Knutsford, and run by PGA Midland’s tournament staff.

IronMarket Group’s managing partner Wes Wilkes is a keen golfer who entered a team in the recent 13th Glazerite Trophy at Wellingborough Golf Club.

Which is why he has opted for golf to raise funds for a cause that is close to his heart.

He explained: “Three years ago, I lost my Dad (Dave Wilkes) not long after he was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. He just 60 years old. He was my hero, my mentor and loved by many in the Stoke community.

“So we’ve organised this event not only to honour my father, but more importantly, to raise funds for the incredible people at the Royal Stoke University Hospital who tried everything they could to make him better.

“We’re aiming to raise more than £5,000 for the ward that looked after him so they can continue to help people in the same unfortunate position. Whether you're a keen golfer or just looking to help our cause, we thank you for your support.”
