First win in over a year for Thompson

Lee Thompson claimed his first victory of 2017 after sharing top spot with Jon Bevan in the prestigious Oake Manor Pro-Am last Friday.
It was former PGA captain Bevan’s fourth success this season but Thompson’s first win in more than a year although he has achieved many top three placings.
Dudsbury’s Thompson made birdies at the fifth, 11th and three in succession from the 15th in compiling the only fault-free round by the 42 pros.
While Bevan (Sherborne) managed six birdies at the third, fifth, seventh, 11th, 13th and 17th but dropped a shot at the sixth.
Matt Dearden (Vale Resort) is enjoying a successful summer and took third place, one shot adrift after making five birdies and one bogey in two halves of 33.
Lydia Hall (Hensol Golf Academy) returned to the course where she starred in the Total Triumph Order of Merit tournament early in the season and only lost to Sion Bebb in a play-off. This time another impressive round of 67 which included five birdies brought a share of fourth place.
Scott Drummond often produces remarkable shots and his 67 contained two eagles, a two at the eighth and three at the 15th. With five birdies as well he should have romped home, but unbelievably he made double bogey fives at each of the four par threes.
Adam Frayne (Yelverton) was the third player on 67 after carding six birdies and three dropped shots.
Henry Pallas (Upavon) made five birdies and shared seventh with PGA Cup captain Albert MacKenzie (Saunton) who returned in three-under after picking up shots at the 14th, 16th and 17th.
Michael Watson (Wessex Golf Centre) led the winning team of Rob Price (Burnham and Berrow), Steve Roberts and Gareth Price (The Dorset G and CC) on 17-under-par 123.
Ross Langdon (Brickhampton Court) and the Matt Durbin and Associates team of Josh Martin, Paul Coleman and Matt Durbin were second on 125, beating Thompson’s trio of James Ward, Mark Sumner and Jim Dale on countback.
