Four share Stortford prize

09/09/2019

Darren Turner (Ingrebourne Links Golf Complex) produced a brilliant back nine to land a share of the Bishop’s Stortford Pro-Am spoils.

Turner birdied four of the last seven holes – including a three at the tough par-4 18th – to fire a four-under-par round of 67.

That would eventually secure a tied-first finish alongside David Salisbury (Three Rivers Golf & Country Club), James Watts (Kingsway Golf Centre) and Jason Levermore (Little Channels Golf Centre).

Levermore was in the last group out and moved to five-under with four holes left. It looked as if he may secure an outright success but his only bogey of the day came at the par-3 17th and he had to settle for a share of first prize.

Watts also rued a late bogey, coming on the ninth – his 18th hole. But for that blemish he would have added a pro-am triumph to his Order of Merit win at Bishop’s Stortford 24 hours earlier.

Watts had defeated Scott Hudson (Warren) and Salisbury in a play-off. But the latter gained some consolation with a 67 in the pro-am that saw him open up with four birdies in his first five holes.

The team pro-am was landed by the quartet led by Mark Talbott (Thorpe Hall), who carded a 123 total – two clear at the summit.
