Hall aiming to go one better at Coxmoor

Ben Hall has set himself up for another attempt to win the Galvin Green PGA Assistants’ Championship.

Hall, of Rushcliffe Golf Club in Nottinghamshire, was runner-up in last year’s final and he maintained his form by winning the Midlands qualifying event at Coventry Golf Club in impressive style.

He shot a nine under par round of 64 to top the leaderboard by two shots ahead of Robert Bardsley of Sutton Coldfield’s Moor Hall Golf Club.

And Hall admitted that he was driven by the fact that this year’s final is being held at a familiar course.

The £32,000 showpiece event takes place at Coxmoor Golf club in Nottinghamshire between August 2-4.

Hall set the pace at Coventry from the start with an eagle at the first hole and a birdie after that. Now he is focused on the final.

“I’ve played Coxmoor quite a lot and I like it,” said the second year PGA assistant.

“I shot a 65 there about month ago and that’s why I was up for it because I really want to play at Coxmoor again.

“I had an extra edge knowing where the final was being held, especially as I was second in last year’s event.

“I’m feeling confident I’m just looking forward to doing it.

“Last year, the winner was a few groups behind me and the scoreboard was saying I was in the lead. As it was, I needed to birdie the final hole but I bogeyed it and lost by two shots.”

Hall works for his father, PGA Professional Chris, at Rushcliffe.

“It works out well, my main priority is to play so it’s perfect really,” he said.

“I can get out there and take part in the events I want.”

Hall is also going for honours on a second front this year.

“I’m prioritising the Midlands Order of Merit events as well as I’m trying to get to the play-offs so I have a chance to play at the BMW Championship at Wentworth.

“That’s one of my main goals for the summer as well as the Coxmoor final.”
