Happy Land-ing as pro's dream comes true

09/02/2018

0902MichaellanderMichael Lander is living the dream after landing a job as an assistant professional at St Andrews which he saw advertised on the PGA website!

"I thought to myself 'why not' and decided to put all my eggs in one basket. I was offered the chance the day after the  interview.

"I had come from an academic background but thanks to the PGA, the standard I studied to and achieving a degree at Myerscough College were all a massive help.

The 25-year-old from Wigan, who took up the game at his local club Dean Wood when he was 12, has quickly settled down at the Home of Golf.

"I work as an instructor, teach and custom fit clubs and lead the beginners and the private school programme. I also teach the general public on a day-to-day basis.

"It couldn't believe it when I got the job. I didn't ask how many other people had applied! I just grateful that this has happened to me.

"I worked very hard for six years to achieve my  goal but I'm not done yet and will push forwards. I am passionate about how to learn things."

Lander, who has been presented with the TGI Golf award, added: "The PGA has been brilliant. It does a great job."

Meanwhile, Meltham Golf Club's James Fish, has received the TGI honour in his second year while former European Tour player Jamie Howarth, who is an assistant at Cheshire club Davenport, has been handed a first year award.
