Hay and McKechnie in the money again

Gavin Hay and Paul McKechnie found themselves in the winners' enclosure again after recording their fourth victory of the month at the Panmure Golf Club Pro-Am on Wednesday.

Having already triumphed at Bothwell Castle, Montrose and Turriff between July 21 and 23, the pair topped the field of fellow pros with one-under-par 69s, achieved in very wet conditions, to earn £1,117.50 apiece.

Hay's bogeys came early - at the fourth, sixth and seventh, but he recovered from that to amass five birdies in all, including a strong finish of gains at the 14th, 17th and 18th in halves of 36 and 33.

McKechnie, one of the TartanTour's most consistent top-ten finishers, also found it tough going early on and he had a double bogey 6 at the fourth and also dropped shots at the sixth and nine. But Paul would also finish the day with a bag of five birdies.

The joint winners finished ahead of joint third placed Lee Vannet,  resident coach at Craibstone Golf Club, north of Aberdeen, and Graham Fox (Clydeway Golf), both returning par 70s and earned £652 each.

McKechnie also led "The Kummel Crusaders" - Malcolm Gray (handicap 11), Alan Tucker (15) and Ewan Matthew (6) - to victory by two shots in the pro-am team event with an 11-under-par 129 total, which earned the pro a bonus of £147. Andrew Crerar, Joel Hopwood, Stephen Gray and Kenny Monaghan were the pros of the other teams finishing in the top five, all on 131. Like McKechnie, they won £147 each.
