Ashley Mansell

A day after lamenting his putting in the Players Championship at Cumberwell Park, Ashley Mansell produced an amazing back nine to win the Remedy Oak pro-am.

The Clevedon assistant was one-over after nine at the event, which was sponsored by Kitchen Elegance, but he roared home in seven-under par 29.

It was an impressive finish by Mansell who picked up back-to-back birdies at the 12th and 13th before an eagle at the 15th was followed by three successve birdies.

It was also a case of what a difference a day makes for Paul Hendriksen (Ivybridge) whose iron play was below par at Cumberwell. He finished one shot behind at the outstanding Dorset countryside course after making an eagle at the fifth and five birdies, including three over the closing holes,

Freddy Valenti (Poulton Park), a regular visitor to Remedy from the South Region, was third on 69 after claiming three birdies on the way home.

Scott Drummond continued his consistent play by sharing fourth on 70. He was joined by Louis Boston (Stockwood Vale), who carded his best round of the season, back-to-form Michael Watson (Wessex Golf Centre) and Adam Frayne Yelverton).

Valenti won the team award alongside Dan Hobson, David Jones and Josh Simons on 92. Mansell was runner up on 88 with Harry Bradshaw, Paul Graham and Richard Lewis with Hendriksen’s trio of Ryan Jupp, Ian Penfold and Spencer Jarrett third.
