Garry Houston is confident he will hit form at the right time as he prepares to make his Great Britain & Ireland debut against America in the PGA Cup later this month.

The Welshman is part of a ten-man Great Britain & Ireland team, led by Albert MacKenzie, who will take on America at Foxhills Resort in Surrey from September 15-17.

Houston finished fourth at the recent Welsh National PGA Championship at Celtic Manor, five shots behind winner Sion Bebb, but did finish second and first respectively at recent pro-ams at Crewe and Denbigh.

Houston said: “My form has been a bit mixed over the last three or four weeks, but I think that’s because I have been aware that the PGA Cup is looming and I’ve maybe been trying a bit too hard.

“I’ve just been trying to keep healthy and keep fit, but hopefully over the next few weeks I can put in some good performances before we go down to Foxhills.

“I’ve got a few events to enter and the Welsh National was part of my preparations for it. I’m disappointed with how I did in the Welsh National, in the way I played more than the way I finished. I’ve got a few small things to blame but only little things as I start building up to it now.”

One part of his game that is causing Houston slight concern is his putting.

“I’m fighting with a little problem that I’ve got with my technique and that in turn has crept into my putting a little bit because that’s the strongest part of my game. It always has been.

“I’m just misfiring with some technique problems at the moment. Once I fix one they’ll sort themselves out.”

Houston qualified for the team after finishing fifth in the PGA Professional Championship in Ireland back in June. He joined his fellow team-mates, vice-captains and captain MacKenzie at a team get-together at Foxhills at the end of July.

Since then the former European Tour player has been counting down the days until the action gets under way at Foxhills on September 15.

He added. “I’m really looking forward to it. It’s looming large now. It’s a massive thing for me being part of the team and I’m so excited about it.

“When I made the team I set my goals at the start of the year to try and be involved in the matches. I played very solid in Ireland and I was really made-up to qualify for the team during that week, so bring it on.”
