Hutcheon wins at Pebble 2 weeks before the US Open

Three-time Challenge Tour Winner and Banchory Golf Club professional Greig Hutcheon recorded a thrilling win in the prestigious Pro-Am Tour at Pebble Beach which boasts play on three of golf’s finest courses - Spyglass Hill, The Links at Spanish Bay, and the world-famous Pebble Beach Golf Links.

This year’s event saw 16 teams from France, South Africa, Australia, Italy, Singapore and the UK compete against the scenic backdrop of California’s stunning Monterey Peninsula, which fully lived up to its billing of the greatest meeting of land and sea, as well as golf, in the world.

Former European Tour Professional Zane Scotland and Hutcheon took the first-round lead with superb 69s at Spyglass Hill. Pro-Am Tour regular Andy Raitt of St Georges Hill was one shot back on 70.

A superb second round 69 at The Links at Spanish Bay would see Hutcheon fly into the lead from Andy Raitt, a gap of 4 shots. The only question would be, could he hold on around Pebble Beach Golf Links, which will stage the US Open Championship next week.

With the rough up, fairways 30% smaller, and spectator stands in place it was going to be interesting to see what might unfold. Hutcheon found trouble on iconic holes 6 and 7 making back to back bogeys before dropping a further shot at 14 for Raitt to move within 1 shot of the lead, however it would be Raitt who would make double body at 16 and Hutcheon a fine birdie at 17 to seal his victory.

Also, on the final day Isabelle Roberts an amateur in Julian Gressier’s French team made a hole-in-one on the 5th Hole where her record will live permanently in a signed book at Pebble Beach, what a place to have one!

In the team event, former caddie turned South African PGA member Mick Hough would lead his team of Trevor Stead, Andy Hough & Brian Rickards to a comfortable victory over James Heath's team, with Scott Barr's team taking third. In his caddying days Hough caddied for Miguel Angel Jiminez at the 2010 US Open at Pebble Beach, and he was delighted to be able to return to the US Open venue and compete as a player on The Pro-Am Tour.

In addition to the 54-hole Pro-Am a separate Challenge Day was held at Pebble Beach Golf Links where James Heath would shoot a 70 (38 points). South African PGA Pro Graeme Whale was one point behind in second.

At the Prizegiving Reception and Dinner, Greig Hutcheon thanked Pro-Am Tour organisers Craig, John & Alison Hooper for running another excellent event at one of the finest golfing venues in America. Hutcheon also thanked all the amateur golfers for supporting The Pro-Am Tour events, and for giving professional golfers the opportunity to compete at world class venues that they would normally only dream about playing.

Once again the event received rave reviews from all the competitors with many stating that it was the finest golfing week of their lives.

Competitors enjoyed evenings out in the numerous high quality dining establishments within the Pebble Beach Resort and the nearby towns of Carmel & Monterey. Several teams dined in the famous and very popular Mission Ranch Restaurant in Carmel which is owned by legendary movie star Clint Eastwood.

The 2020 Pro-Am Tour at Pebble Beach will be held 21st – 26th May. The tournament organisers are already reporting strong interest in this event and early booking is highly recommended.
